This morning LHC DHALO Section above the lake= Very high and muddy This morning LHC DHALO Section below lake = very high and muddy This morning MC DHALO Section = very high muddy Late morning DC = to my surprise was not blown out at 11am when I arrived, then the blow out came. I checked gauges, reports, and weather before I made the trek from Pittsburgh, but reports were slim, and I could find no information regarding how the particular water gauges correlated with blown-outed-ness. (Anyone who could share any insight on that?)Is it just me, or are there not a lot of reports for the streams in our region such as Laurel Hill Creek (LHC), Meadow Run (MR), Dunbar Creek (DC), the Yough' (Y) ? I wonder if we could all share a little more. Or is it a muddy little secret? Thanks

Laurel Hill reacts to rain quickly and comes down less quickly. Meadow reacts less quickly and comes down at about the same rate as LH, imo. Dunbar fishes well when high and the spate from new water is slow to develop and quick to dissipate. The only one that can really be judged by a guage is the Youghiogheny River.
I haven't been out locally, so I would have had to guess just like you. During likely high water times, if the Yough doesn't show promise, of the other three, Dunbar is usually your best bet in terms of not being "blown out." There are lots of small native brookie waters in the Laurel Highlands that fish well during high water periods.

Thanks for that information, JackM. Your description is consistent with what I witnessed today It will help next time I need to make decision. I know one thing: if the available indicators are similar to what they were today, I probably would not make the trip again. Something tells me, though, that all the variables are never going to really be the same. Oh well, fish and learn.

One tidbit to add to Jack's comment. Laurel Hill can be judged by the gauge. I typically won't bother going if the gauge reads over 175 cfs.

When the bigger creeks are blown out, head to your local brookie stream.
