Black stone flies we're out in full force today w/ some bwos mixed in. There were times that it looked like it was snowing. Found a nice brown rising to stones so I tied one on and got him.

Papa, if I recall your only recently caught your first fish on a dry. A week or so later you post this calm, "Found a nice brown rising to stones so I tied one on and got him." Dude, you are hooked and way too calm. LOL

Ha! no, no, no....That was the first trout on a dry this year, 2012. I've been in the game for about 4 years now w/ plenty of top water action.
I've gotten better at matching the hatch but I'm still always a bit surprised when they actually take it.

This BWO conviently landed on my vest. He's more like a blacked wing black.

How big was he? SF or Pcray might want to chime in here but that looks awefully dark to be a BWO, could black quills be coming off in the SE this early?

I guess that would make sense. He certainly didn't look to be the same color as the BWO I saw on valley last weekend and he was a bit bigger. That and he isn't olive and doesn't have blue wings.
That's an 18 zebra in my figertips if you can see it. Adjust for depth...I'd say he was probably a size 12. It was pretty big and i only saw that one.

Went there tonight after work and picked up 5 typical stocked rainbows on a frenchy. Couldn't get a take on any small midge's I used as a trailer. A few midge's came off but no stoneflies that I saw.
