Perfect water conditions. More black stoneflies than I've ever seen anywhere. Saw exactly one rise in 3 hours fishing. Got 10 fish or so on #14 Hare's Ears and Copper Johns. All were dink rainbows except for the last fish which was a nice healthy looking 16" bow.
A few other guys were out behind the fly shop and down to the first big pool. Didn't see anyone else below there. Kev

For me Neshannock has always been a frustrating stream. When the air is full of bugs, and the fish "should" be feeding on them, they never seem to turn on. Its the low IQ of the stocked fish i'm guessing. The extra 45min drive north to Crawford and Venango County which have nice wild trout streams is worth it.

good to hear the fish are starting to eat! now we just need them to eat on top!
I agree with beadhead, if I had to drive any distance to fish there, I'd go the extra miles to some better waters, but for being 10 minutes away, it's not a bad place to spend a couple hours in the evenings or mornings. I wanted to hit it this week, but have to deal with personal issues, so fishing will have to take a backseat till next week.

I still contend that the small black stones don't taste good, they just won't come up for them anywhere I see them.

It's not just Neshannock. Last weekend I fished Oil and Little Sandy. Both had stones hatching but I only saw one rise total on both streams.
