Took a new fly rod and new waders down to Muddy Creek today. I figured I hadn't been there in a while. I had other smaller streams I could have gone to but I really wanted to give the waders and studded boots "the test" I missed a lot of trout today and lost a few also. I managed to land two, well kinda land them. I got all of my strikes on a small (1 1/2") micro clouser. The fish were fiesty enough I just am not used to a long #5 rod. I normally fish smaller lighter rods. The cabela's 8' 6" Three Forks rod has a lot of back bone.

As for the waders, my new Frog Toggs are great and having metal studded wading boots allows you to wade in fast water and up over big slick boulders easily. I'm really satisfied with the switch to studs.

I'll tell you Muddy Creek always surprises me for how clear it can be even after a rain. It was pretty clear today and when I drove over the Conewago this morning on the way it was Coffee with Creamer colored which worried me.

I ran into Fritz and Maurice, they were fishing down stream and I was heading upstream. Stoneflies were everywhere, and both Mo and fritz were gettin' hits on size 16 or 14 black no hackle stones.

I lost track of time, and had to get out of there quick. But it was nice talking with the two for a little. I couldn't stop looking at Mo's sammich. It was a really nice day to be out of the house and outdoors.

P.S. As for concerns of the condition of the creek post Tropical Storm Lee, Muddy Creek is in Great shape. I found the stream pretty much the same as it always is.

Good to see you there Jake. Enjoyed our chat. I did manage to touch one trout at the end on a pt nymph. I just couldn't keep them buttoned up today.

Water temp was 46 according to Fritz.

Enjoyed seeing you again Jake. Stonefies were in full swing today as they have been most of this week. Not as many rises today though posssibly due to the amount of people out fishing. Got a couple on drys and nymphs. Muddy has been in really good shape this week.

Hey guys I was at the lower end of the ffo section in the afternoon. I managed to loose about six on 16 bwo. I thought thats what was coming off the water but I guess it was stoneflys. Haha either way down where my friend and I were fishing the fish were raising like crazy. One would surface in front of me I would swing a dry at it and then one behind me then right next to me. I have never seen so much surface action in march! This weather is great so if anyone is heading to muddy tomorrow pm me I'm going to try to hit it in the morning. -steve

I noticed for some reason I always lose a lot of trout on Muddy Creek. I doesn't matter what rod I'm usin'.

I was bummed I had to leave, trout were really startin' to rise as i waded down stream. I ended up makin' the woman late for work a few minutes. I'm sure she's pissed, but we didn't have much time for words when I got home. lol. Oh well.

I have never been to the upper section. Better or worse than the lowest part? And as for missing fish I think this year I have totalled up a big zero! Kicking my butt on muddy creek but I guess it will more exciting to actually land one.

It's faster upstream mostly. The fly area has many different characteristics. I like the faster water.

Headed to Muddy tomorrow afternoon. Probably gonna fish the upper section (never been to that part). It should be a circus, as I am new to this flyfishing gig. I was worried about Muddy's clarity today but glad to hear its looking good. I should of gotten off the couch today and enjoyed the sunshine.

Hoping for some surface action!

Nice report, Leaky. I was at Yellow Breeches the past couple days.... and the rain had the creek high and stained. Amazing how Muddy didn't get wacked that bad.
I saw a few risers at YB, but Muddy seems to have a lot more, especially at the lower end Hemlocks.
Both creeks were stocked the same day, the 14th.
Tomorrow, I'm meeting someone at Cabelas and I'm going to stock up on some midge dry fly stuff.
Crazy year!! I've already seen lots of black midges, some BWO's, and some small Caddis!.... in Feb!!
