Hit the Letort today for about 5 hours. Started off on the lower end at about 10:00 with the air temp around 29. Threw a black sculpin until I lost it on a brown about the size of my leg. No, seriously. It materialized out of a grass bed as I was finishing stripping the fly and about to lift it for another cast. I almost had to clean out my waders. After I finished ranting and screaming like a little girl (for both losing a fish of the year, and snapping off my only sculpin), I continued for about another 300-400 yards hitting the undercuts and beds with an olive bugger. Had one nice one flash from under the bank, but nothing hooked. I decided to move up to the headwaters. Tied on a black half deer hair/half zonker strip clouser I thought might turn some heads, and it actually did. Managed 3 medium sized fish, all about the same length. Finished up around 3:00 and decided to hit another smaller limestoner on the way home. This smaller stream has been used and abused, yet still holds some nice wild fish. I was kind of disheartened though to see two palominos and some washed-out bows stockers that were more interested in chasing each other than even realizing that I was standing almost on top of them. Hooked one small brown, but didn't land it. Left a little disheartened as to what this stream used to be (so I've read) and what it could still be if it got some love. Thinking back to the experience I had just a few hours before on the Letort, it made me realize that even though the Letort is not what it once was, it sure beats the crap out of most other streams of its kind.

I just fished the Letort today on the lower end of the catch and release area. Not so good for me today.
