Good morning.
I had a long weekend to myself. You young dads know that any results while fishing under these circumstances are good enough... Fished French on 2-17. There were a few other guys around throughout the afternoon. No surface activity but ended up doing ok on a streamer. Talked to a couple other guys and nobody was doing much good. Big Spring on 2-18. Fished from about noon to about 4 PM. Fished the ditch. I don't know why. That is a frustrating experience every time I do it but I can't seem to give it up. Around 2 some midges started popping off but not much surface activity. Avoided the skunk with a couple brookies and was toyed with by a couple more. I probably should have fished the other part of the stream. The wind was gusty making the perfect presentation required to fish the Ditch almost impossible. Letort on 2-19. Easily the best day. Caught a few of those beautiful browns on dry BWO. So much for the snow storm of the year/decade/century. Though the sun seemed to be keeping the hatch and the rises down a bit. Overall, more trout than diapers so that's pretty good.

SK,
Where is "French Creek"? There are a bunch of streams with this name. Normally, we ask that reports here in the Stream Reports forum cover only individual streams and note the stream/county/date format. It's not a big deal and we'll leave up your thread - in the future, please note the format for reports used in other threads.

Sorry. I was trying to save paper - or postings space.
I fished French Creek in Chester County. The Letort is in County and Big Spring in County. I should have also mentioned that I fished the fly-only stretches of French and Letort. I'll do better next time...

Nice to see you had some activity. Did they just stock French? That was always an April to early June stream. Too bad. Its pretty up in the Kimberton area.

The Commission web site said that they stocked French late in the week before I fished it on Friday. There wasn't much evidence of it though. I didn't try the usual stockie strategies when it came to flies and so maybe I just wasn't offering what they were looking for. There was no (and I mean NO) surface activity. The one Brown trout that came to hand looked too good to be a fresh stockie so I'm thinking maybe he had been in the stream a while. Hopefully the fish they put in will settle in and provide better fishing over the next couple of months.
