Worth every minute of the drive to catch just one like this! Few fresh steelies mixed in with all the suckers and smallies.

ebitt,
Nice photo - looks like you had a great day.

For future reference, please take a look at our guidelines/policies for stream reports. We ask for the stream/county/date in the subject box. In the body of the post we seek to know some specific information from your day on the water that would be useful to our readers: good examples would be water conditions and temps, weather, insect hatches and perhaps some info on flies that were successful (or not).
Thanks,
Dave W

Kind of wondering where, and when , this picture was taken. I was up two weeks ago and did well but all of the creeks were low, but it rained late Thursday night and the water was off color on Friday so I'm assuming you were there after March 18?

Sorry everyone new to posting. Fish was caught on Elk Creek in Erie on Tuesday the 28th on a white wooly bugger. Water was clear in the high 40's. Picked up a few on olive and black but white was the key for me.

Simply wonderful! Do you stay up there a couple days...... or do you make the trip back the same day?
I've fished that creek a couple times, but I'm too lazy to make the long drive!
Beautiful fish, and a nice wading staff!

It is pretty much impossible to make Erie a day trip from York! I live in York and it takes me 5 1/2 hours to get to Girard where Elk flows. There are quite a few motels in the area where you can get a clean room, TV, frig, and microwave for from just under $50 to about $65 per night. I typically go with someone else to split gas expense, driving, and lodging. PM me if you ever want to make a trip up.

heck, I'm only about an hour away but I still like to spend the night, if only to enjoy myself at the avonia tavern!

1wt, this was my first trip up. I had some vacation to burn so I stayed in a hotel for a couple of nights. Long long trip for a day. I too would be willing to get together with other locals and split expenses in the future.

Didn't use the wading staff much but I have a bad knee thanks to my time in the USMC so I like to have it handy. Never know when I'm going to push it to catch another great fish!

Guys, I have driven out to Erie for the day. Leave at 4 AM arrive around 9:30. Fish hard till 5 or 6 and drive home. Back home before midnight. Don't do it often, but when the bug itches I gotta scratch it. Now that there is more daylight, prob. get a room and fish two days.....Usually am by myself as it is a spur of the moment thing.........

Biggie,
I usually do the same thing. A super long drive, but well worth the trip when you catch a few steel on a 6wt! And driving with fast food stops along the way isn't too bad!
Same thing with the stripers at IBSP NJ, but that only takes 3 1/2 hrs.
I stayed at a motel a couple times when I went with others. The motels are pretty cheap in Erie...... and yes, the couple bars are OK! The guys I went with last time don't take fishing as seriously as I do, most don't, but they sure liked the bars!! LOL
