I grew up fly fishing in PA and have since moved to Montana. We have a lot of guests that fish our way from PA (some of our best fisherman!) so if anyone has the itch to fish MT you can check out our Montana fly fishing reports. Things are pretty quiet right now in the middle of winter, but are local spring creeks are always pretty good. Once April hits things start to heat up!

Anyone heading to MT this year??
Wondering what the snowpack levels are like this year out there? Probably no trips for this year. If I go, I am heading to CA, there levels are outstanding. CA pack

Not looking for a ^ tl dr
Perhaps a little color would make it more interesting and possibly create a high level of jealously for an avid fly angler who enjoys destination fishing. The MO ?

I have no idea what the plan is as of now. All I know is that I am going. I'll let you know when I decide.

last two weeks of Sept.
or last week of sept. first oct. magic time- when browns start to move and more daytime feeding-this is when a stripped muddler earns its keep-and less people-get an overcast day and you will never forget it.

It's risky to plan a trip that late, isn't it? I would love to be there at that time, but I will have to plan it months in advance. I might try to hit the hoppers for better chances of good weather.

No Jay-go go go-
,many guides are teachers and want summer traffic-but No question what so ever the best bigger trout fishing of the year-unless you catch salmon flies right-but usually in discolored hi water Fall the water starts to clear and if you can make the last sept. first of oct.you get turn over time when middle of the day can yield bigger fish[instead of being a nite owl] early morning, evening will still be best but you will get a slightly larger average size of your fish in the fall even in day fishing-browns are not unlike deer -both will take a little stroll around noon-true for thirty years I took those fall weeks for vacation-if a late fall you just move up river to higher country-Early fall, down river- Far and away the most beautiful time in montana and if you have never seen the harvest moon in big sky country-you have been gypped.
