Delaware River System - Highwater Report!

CCAS was out in full force on the Delaware River System fishing all the branches! With the resevoirs full, it is prime time to take advantage of the high flow condions courtesy of the NYC water authority! Over two days we saw little or no dry fly activity except for a few sporadic risers. Our game however was big time streamer action. We fished a variety of patterns from wooly buggers to mice patterns. For a full report and pics and video (coming soon) go to www.catchingchrome.com.

Night fishing was consistent with some major blowups on some diver patterns. Fish averaged 14-23 inches. Now is time to be on the Delaware no matter what branch you aim to fish. Take advantage of these conditions while they last.

All in all the fishing was fantastic, you have to cover alot of ground to find these fish, because the strikes seemed to come in waves. We'd go a mile without a fish and then in a stretch of a few hundred yards we'd smoke 4-6 huge browns.

Now is the time to get out and get them!

Thanks guys! And if you haven't noticed, Pete put together some video clips and they are now up on the site with the full report - he did a great job putting it together - it was just "one of those" 24 hour periods....

Nice fish! I need to spend some time at the vice tying streamers. My box was decimated this season.

Looks like cannonsville just started to spill last night. So the good hi-water fishing should continue for the foreseeable future.

Time to go big!

Jake, There is no doubt about it... September should be a great high water month on the system. I'll betcha right now, NYC wishes they had released a bit more water throughout July. By the looks of it they could have released 1000 cfs all July and still been in great shape (and alleviated potential flooding down river)...

Oh well, bottom line - 2011 will go down as a great year for the trout of the Upper D. I've never seen such healthy fish, and there was plenty of evidence of all year classes...

Those are great fish. Nice job! Slinging meat.

Upper D has fished great this summer. Just shows what cold consistent releases do for a fishery.
