April 28 Yough Report
We had a few boats out on the trout water this weekend, and the reports from all captains are that the river up high is fishing really well. Sunday, with the dark, rainy weather that it brought, was the day to be out. Though the cold and rain seemed to put the bugs down, there is plenty of time for that still, and days like this come only so often, days that are made for throwing streamers at trout.
Mid-sized 3-4" sculpin patterns in brown and olive had the rainbows all hot and bothered while the bigger stuff seemed to be needed to get the browns interested.
For those inclined to indi-fish, nymphs matching Hendricksons and Olives were great droppers, and big stones with all kinds of rubber were putting fish in the net as well.
On the bass front, one of our smallmouth boys had some clients out on the lower river for some pre-spawn action this weekend as well, and the report from down low is that the bite is fair at the moment.
As always check out the website for updated reports, and drop us a line if you'd like to try the Yough this year.
