CCAS was out picking up the new driftboat and on the way back from Warren, MI we decided to swing by Warren, PA to try out the new boat on the Allegheny River. River conditions were decent with flows around 5000 cfs out of the dam and weather was cold. In CCAS fashion we tossed streamers and managed to to hook some really nice trout in the 20-26" class we estimated, however after length battles with them we lost all three of the best fish. However one of our clients joined us for the afternoon on Saturday and we guided him to his first ever Musky on the Fly. 42"er's. It was a perfect way to break in the new craft. Sunday we floated again but only managed a few small trout 16-18"ers. Bright sun, high 60's air temp and alot of jet boat traffic may have hampered the fishing somewhat. However we did see some black stones hatching and even a rising trout. Video coming soon of the musky action. Stay tuned to www.catchingchrome.com for details!

Looks like yuh got a lucky driftboat.
Nice musky. Were you specifically targeting them? The neat thing about hucking big streamers on rivers like this is you never know what will chomp your fly. There's something of a coolwater - what I call the transition zone - on many of our large rivers around here where there are big trout but also bass, walleyes and muskies. The Delaware and Potomac are good examples too. A large streamer fished during the colder months will catch 'em all. Going from a 20" brown trout on one cast to a 40" muskie a few casts later is about as good as it gets!
