I could never do any of this. But, I nail knotted a looped end of a commercial leader to my fly line recently, and I can now loop a leader to that loop. I am not sure, however, that this is totally satisfactory, as I seem to catch my fly in this loop to loop mono occasionally (bad casting, I guess). But, it did give me an easy loop.

Let me start by saying i have very little FF experience, much less with the GW.

Was fishing this weekend with little luck and a veteran of the stream I was fishing told me to try the weenie. I put it on and the first two casts I landed two suckers. After that I took it off and went back to the gold stones. The trout wanted nothing to do with it.

For example; the casting that works in Montana doesn't work here and the casting that works here doesn't work in Montana (for the most part). My point is that there are many, many, many schools of Fly-Fishing and they all have their own unique tactics.

As far as tying a nail knot. I use a fly tying bobbin. It works just fine and you don't need another tool to do it. On smaller fly lines such as 4wt to 9 wt. I prefer to use a needle knot. Do a google search I am sure you will find it. A needle knot is just a modified nail knot. It's really not hard to do. I have been using this method for more years than I can count. Just add a pc. of heavy mono with a loop on the end, loop on leader and fish.

Just m...

For those with rainshdow switch blanks, Batson has come up with a line for these... Scandi style welded to a running line.
the 7wt (IF-1087) line is LN1087= 27 foot/335 grains.
This line would allow you to use light poly leaders or standard length mono leaders up to 15 ft.

Do not overheat. Depending on what was used to secure the thread wraps, you can accidentally loosen the wraps and unwind the fly. That said steaming is a good revival technique, just go a little at a time, like maybe 10-15 seconds at most. And do them in small groups so that those which respond promptly can be taken out of the steam earlier.

Ants are hardy they are one of the last insects to go into "hibernation" also this time of year they migrate towards the areas where they are gonna spend the winter away from summer areas where they are interested in food and reproduction. I love fishing with ants , trout seem to know they are gone before we do.
