Gear Talk:: Kayak or Drift Boat?
There is no place in PA that I'd use a drift boat, especially if you think you're going to fish on an impoundment. On big water you waste all your time rowing through long slow water and not fishing. I know this because my friend had a drift boat and used it for the Upper Delaware, it would take us all day to travel from our put in point to our take out point, when we could have done that in a couple of hours in a kayak or canoe. The difference...

That one's legal to own for "collecting" purposes, illegal to carry by Commonwealth law.

Its an automatic knife (switchblade). Your finger actuates a button which releases the lock.

Since your finger does not actually open and shut the blade, its a text book switch blade.

Ditto on the d.i.y. guide repair, I'd fix that rod yourself, or find someone local that can, no need to spend $70 just to replace a guide. And why not take those glass rods along with you? Folks were catching many, many, many trout in Montana loooong before these days of fast graphite sticks, that 6wt should be lots of fun out there.

right, old rods aren't all bulletproof and most new rods dont just break themselves in the breeze.

imho, todays best bargains, such as $125 echo carbon closeouts, are much better casters than your garden variety older fly rod.

if you break one every four years and the repair costs $35, so be it.

Gear Talk:: Rowing a pontoon vs. Drift boat
A pontoon is great for getting from one pool to the other or for getting to the opposite bank when fish are out of reach. Fishing from the "toon" isn't so much fun but I do 75% from the boat and 25% wadidng. Wind down river is awesome, across river isn't as much fun and blowing up river is a living hell. You get to a pool that is normally like glass and it appears to be a 1/4 long riff... NOPE. It's whitecaps blowi...

have used the monocular a bit, works quite well given cost. I know very little about optics, but 6x (the 6 in 6x30) is lower power than 8x or 10x monoculars, better to use on the go. 30mm lens (30 in 6x30) gathers more light than say 20mm lens.

the 6x30 barska works well even wearing glasses. once in a while I see a bear or coyote, hope to get a better look next time...

You will be fine on the Lehigh with that. I fish a single man bucks bronco on the Lehigh and other rivers. The one man will give you a few more launch and take out options than larger boats. For float options you have the Lehigh, North Branch Suskie, and Delaware, at least. Those three flows would keep me occupied for some time.
