Grass carp can only be stocked in Pennsylvania with a permit- and only if they're sterile triploid-gene fish.

Be careful about this. Pa. does not need any more invasive species problems.

The other three recently introduced carp species- bighead, silver, and black carp- are all totally prohibited.

http://tinyur...

Been fishing the Vineyard since I was a kid. You'll be there at the right time: June is, without a doubt, the best month to fish bass up there. I saw somebody posted a link for Larry's. It's a good shop, but I'm partial to Coops, if for no other reason than he's a friend and I grew up fishing with most of his guides. My nephew guides for him as well. I would just get any kind of 20lb fluro convention gear line you can find since you get more for the money . And get a spool of 60lb fluro tippet since it will be thinner and more limp than convention gear lines. Just in case you run into some blues. As far as my leader goes I just run about a 5' straight piece of 20lb fluro while using a int line but I shorten it to 3' when I am using a full sinking line .

Local water hovering around 48 degrees and the bite is on! They're most active in the evening (warmest part of the day) but are they ever. Swinging Murdich minnows with little extra movement brought 12 fatties to hand in about an hour and a half. All in the 12-15" range. Things are looking good because I believe these were last years 10-12" fish which dominate the water shed with the occasional heavy weight. I ca...

This was completely unintentional, but I tied up an Optic Minnow style fly with lots of yellow and chartreuse material, including a couple barred marabou feathers. When i would cast it the water would shed and it would float on the surface and I would have to yank on the line to get it back under water. After two or three times of this I noticed how much it resembled a baby duck.

So I spent the next 20 minutes slowly retr...

I was standing on a stump at the waters edge and had a great view from above, I would locate a carp, cast 10 or so feet upstream and let it dead drift towards them about an inch off the bottom (small split shot) and when it was about a foot from them, I would very slowly and gently give it a tiny twitch, not even a twitch but more like a tug, they way a crawfish might creep along the bottom? It was a mixture of sight fishing and blind fishing. the first part was sight fishing then the wind really picked up and clouded the water really fast, so we started casting to them when they rolled on the surface about the second strip they would smash it.

.

FarmerDave, tenkara is indeed a great method of fishing a fly for crappie. In fact, the rod is very much like that used with a classic telescoping crappie rig. The length of tenkara (the model I use is a twelve-footer) allows you to place a fly very accurately between flooded trees or in pockets within weed beds. The short level line allows you to work slowly, at crappie speed.

Here is a...

It sounds gruesome but I was taught to just wack the fish's head against a rock. Its quick and does the job. To be honest though, I haven't eaten many self caught fish recently. I spent 3 years of my life running a fish market and every morning filleting boatloads of fish. Don't miss it one bit! Has anyone fished Dunkard Creek since the fish kill in 09'? I've never fished it, and had thought about making a trip down there. I know the kill was pretty significant. I floated and fished 34mi of the James River VA last summer only to find out at the end of the float there had been a fish kill in previous years. Talk about a long trip for not a lot of fish! Anyhow; I figured I'd reach out on this one.

Marsh creek is good. Also, green lane resivoir has great bass fishing, not to mention all varieties of panfish. Its a little bit of a drive but one of the better lakes in the area. They have boat rentals too, which would make casting easier.

Sholgate,
Thanks. In my experience, the pre-spawn window - roughly about March 10th to April 10th is the best time of year to get a very large bass. Late fall is a close second.

PWK,
Although not generally known for bass, the Yough is a world class smallie fishery and I'd think would be an excellent place to hunt that trophy fish.

Sometimes, even old fish mounts are found to be "enhanced."

And as we've seen, these fish stories often swirl around fish caught in trap nets or electrofishing by state agencies who, according to rumor or conspiracy theory.... invariably "covered up" the catch.

Not...
