That stream has been through a lot. In the flooding of 2010 it took a good beating (as did one of its tribs). That's a stream that could use a little care. Its in a sandstone rich area, so silt can get pretty heavy. Its banks are getting wider and wider. It really only needs a little structural care. It wouldn't take much. I like the Streamside Guide books by Dick Probst, Trout Stream Insects and The Caddisfly Handbook (this one with Carl Richards). They are easy to carry and the illustrations are good and accurate. They are not region specific, but if you travel and fish at all they are useful.

I think there is another book entitled "The Phenological Fly," which also matches flowers with hatches. I paged thru it one time, but I didn't buy it. It really is an interesting and pretty accurate concept, IMO.

I loved the book. I have read it two times over the last several years. That is the only book I can say that about, besides "Trout Streams of PA" of course . . .

The movie was ok. It followed the story line, just not all of the philosophical detail of the book. It is worth checking out. It is available on Netflix for streaming.

I think that's a very good book. Sound, very specific advice on how to cast, mend, and fish commonly encountered situations on the stream- especially those that present difficulties related to getting a good drift.

I've read them both and they are both great books. Landis's book was more detailed and Wolfe went the extra mile and included warmwater. Dwight if you read this we need an updated version! I would love another great Pennsylvania trout stream book.

The River Why, on the other hand, is mostly about fly fishing. Although it also develops some larger themes, because David James Duncan is a very good writer. I'd like to think that book is a classic of American literature too, but I'm too biased in favor of the subject matter to really know. Someone else with more objectivity would have to say. Just sat down with the Jan/Feb issue of the magazine and in the letter from the editor, they are very excited to announce a change in format. Rather than four quarterly issues focusing on specific regions in the NE, they will now print six issues covering all of the East.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the format they abandoned about a year ago? I'm happy for the two extra issues, but I'll miss the more localized...

I have a subscription to Fly fisherman but to be honest, it mostly bores me. I find better articles and instruction online.

I've read "Cinch Knot" and "Blood Knot" by Galligan. Both were enjoyable and I plan to eventually get to whatever the third knot is. Good to see he has put out another. It's not great literature, but some good mystery with a familiar backdrop. Perfect for ereaders.
