Professional Stream Reports:: April 28 Yough Report
We had a few boats out on the trout water this weekend, and the reports from all captains are that the river up high is fishing really well. Sunday, with the dark, rainy weather that it brought, was the day to be out. Though the cold and rain seemed to put the bugs down, there is plenty of time for that still, and days like this come only so often, days that are made for throwing streamers at trout.

Mid-sized 3-4" sculpi...

Professional Stream Reports:: Montana Fishing Forecast for 2013
For anyone making a trip West this season here are some forecasts on what we expect for the 2013 season. Generally by late April we have a pretty good idea of where our snow pack is. Most of the watersheds in Southwest and Western Montana are currently hovering between 95-100% of the 20 year average. May and June are typically good moisture months for Montana so there is still time for things to change and if we get cold...

Water flow at Pineville is just over 1600cfs and if we get no significant rain it should continue to drop. With out rain, the water release from the res will go down for sure.

The river is in great condition for fishing although for the fly rodder your options are limited. If you can get into the diversions off the Wires or Trout Brook area of the river you'll still find steelhead in these areas. Also, any soft water areas will ...

On opening day I fished with a few friends on the Breeches. About 9:30 the Grannoms started to come off and for about 3 hours the wild Browns eat them up. Everyone did well. After lunch it slowed down so we fished a section on the lower Breeches and there was nothing going on. Seeing a trusted friend I asked about the fishing and he commented on the lack of fly (surface activity). A few miles can make a big difference in Hatch...

Spawning activity is going strong. The steady water flow on the Salmon River have helped get them set up in most spawning areas including diversions off the Wires and Trout Brook area.

As for the tribs, they are in good shape and most are holding fish in fair numbers. Steady snow melt has helped the tribs to this point. All fish we've caught in the tribs are fresh or actively spawning, no drop backs yet.<br...

As a quick update for those looking to fish the river, it looks like the USACE are beginning to draw the lake down, so they've bumped the daily flows up to 500 cfs. For now at least--until the lake runs out of cold water--that will keep the water temps good down to below Ohiopyle.

Afternoon and evening fishing has been good: ISOs and BWOs are what's happening. As everyone knows, the river is on the low side right now. The reservoir is so low in fact that there isn't even a scheduled release for this weekend. Whether that is a failure by the USACE to update their site or a sign of things to come remains to be seen as we have yet to contact anyone at the Army Corps about how this drought is going to affect the release schedule.

That being said, water temps on...

I was on the upper Yough in MD above Deep Creek last week. The browns had reached their limit there. They were just floating down the river half dead. Tailed a 24"+ brown right below Swallow Falls that was barely hanging on. Moved it into Mud Creek which was much cooler. Doubt it made it. Central PA Report - Little Juniata River April 29th and 30th

TB ran a hike in trip on the Little Juniata River this past weekend and the crew was met with one of the best mid-day sulphur hatches ever. #14-#16 sulphur parachutes took fish all afternoon on Sunday. The sysytem is in great shape this spring with the below average flows - wading options abound.

During the non-hatch periods, dozens of ...

CC was out on Saucon Creek for a few hours the other day. Flow for having very little rain was very good although the water was very clear. Managed to have a nice section to myself and got into a decent caddis hatch. Fished primarily a caddis emerger and size 16 wetfly to pretty good success. Managed 18 fish to 16" in 2 hours. With low flows the float fishing on the lehigh and delaware has been very limited. Hoping things turn around so...

Fished this afternoon with Nick Raftas, we found rising fish to Tan Caddis and Hendrickson wet flies underneath. There were a few Hendricksons and Quill Gordons around. Caddis and Craneflies were hatching the most.

Stream was still crowded with fishermen. When we found a spot that was not being fished, we would find rising fish. Water was low but temps were 56-58 degrees.

Any more feedback on this subject at the current date. Dry fly fishing on the Class A stream in Berks County is really good right now due to low flows. Little black stone fly is your best choice. If you are nymphing, a dark colored pheasant tail (stonefly) is also good.
Check my web site for more info. www.skyblueoutfitters.com.com

CCAS was out on a wade trip this past weekend in Southeastern PA. We were out with a good friend of CCAS and had a decent day after some heavy rains. Of course this time of year nymphing was the game and the stockies were more than willing to participate. Patterns that took fish included: pheasant tails, rainbow caddis, frenchie, honey bug, and midges. This was a good way to wet our whistles until we take the big roadtrip ...

Largely due to the muddied lower river from the rains that pushed through earlier this week, LHGS spent the majority of its time on the Middle Yough chasing trout the past few days. The story is much the same: the trout are there and are eating flies pretty well if you show them the bugs the right way, but if your drift is off by even a bit or your flies are dragging, you might be in for a frustrating day of August fly poling.
