if you want to catch big flatties use live bait. yea they take cut but then you fighting the channels which gets old. at least 5 inch sunnies. personally I like suckers. a 12 to 15 inch sucker has a 30 pound flathead written all over it. when targeting flatheads don't think of them as catfish. by this I mean they are not really bottom feeders. they are ambush predators. structure is key along with live bait. a flatheads mouth is one of the widest parts of its body. with a 30 pound fish I could probably fit my head in its mouth.

I'm pretty sure I know this spot and if I'm right it's not the Skuke but a large tributary. FWIW.
