Don't know how I missed this one but about a month ago a giant striper, 81.88lbs, was caught off the coast of CT. This fish was taken by a boat angler fishing with a live eel. Anyway, for salt striper junkies the All Tackle World Record for this game fish has been something of a quest for the last 30 years since the current record was caught from a jetty in Atlantic City NJ. If this fish is approved by the IGFA it will easily knock off the old record by 3 lbs.

My current issue of the IGFA newsletter claims that the fisherman hasn't registered the paperwork yet and there seems to be some speculation that he's gone into hiding while weighing his options. This fish could potentially be worth many thousands of dollars but a cautionary tale exists from the previous record holder, Al McReynolds who had personal and family problems (somewhat like winning a lottery) when he landed the current record.

The guy doesn't want to deal with the circus. I don't blame him.

Edit: you beat me to it with your edit. :)
