Now that the Route 322 construction is nearly completed through the Narrows below Lewistown, does anyone know what the access situation is there? Are there places where someone can legally and safely park their car and fish the river in that section?

The ONE time I fished the Juniata, and it was much further down in other narrows, not the Lewistown narrows, I just pulled off onto the berm of the south or east bound lane and scrambled down over the bank. They actually put in a river access area in the new construction Narrows. It wasn't right on any good water. I didn't get to check it out much as I was driving. However, nowhere is terribly far from good water there.
Don't know if berm parking and bank scrambling is allowed in this section. Might be a serious safety hazard. Most of 322 through that entire region is itself a road hazard.

Thanks Syl, I'll have to check out that official access. I guess they should have consulted some anglers about where to put the fishing parking access site.

The new ramp and parking lot in the narrows is complete but not open yet. I'm not sure of the hold-up as it seems to have been completed for a few months now.

CPR is right that access point has been finished for months.

I drove past it last week, but it was still closed.
Although there was a truck with a boat trailer down there - guess he was tired of the signs.

The only problem I see with that access area is that it is only on one side of the highway, so if you are travelling west on 322 you have to go to Lewistown, turn around and head back. Or, if you are heading east to have to go like 7 miles down the road to the next exit to come back.
