Nice guys. Glad to hear all made out and learned some. I'm going to try to get the last big batch of leaves up so I can go and try to fish this weekend, and probably cast the salt rod some to get used to it.

Fred, let's do it. I'll defer to you for location since you are more experienced than I am.

went to IBSP yesterday morning but unfortunately no luck. hiked down to the jetty and fish were breaking the surface but just out of reach. BIG sand eels were everywhere too...snagged one every other cast or so for a while. spin guys were doing well, but the other fly fisherman i saw weren't catching either.

jay,
The jetty stinks!! you will never land a flyrod bass standing on the rocks. When you see the fish breaking just out of reach....... there are sand bars there and shallow water where some fish attack bait there..... but most come inside to the first wave dropoff.
Pretty soon the small bass will migrate south and IBSP will have hundreds at the first wave drop off, only 20' from shore.
Some big ones are caught on clam and big plugs at night, but the small ones "rats" as the locals say are just perfect for a fly rod and a small streamer.
I have found the outgoing tide is the best by far. Even in daytime sunlight, the rats will smack a small fly and give a wonderful fight on a fly rod. I like to use a 6wt and a small 2" white streamer with sink line and a 3' flouro leader.
It should be super action until the middle of Jan. On your next adventure, please take pix and post them here. A 12" striped bass in the surf is more fun to catch than a 12" trout in a tiny stream!!

The Park only gets better as we get into Dec.
It is the same at the Hook.
The bar at the point is a long cast but most of the time
there are fish working on top and to the in side also.
Choke cherry lot is another good spot , along the rocks

This is nonsense. I've caught hundreds of bass standing on the rocks of that jetty.

maybe you need a few lessons, the jetty has produced bass for me on the fly for 30+ years..and blues and blackfish and albies all off of the jetty..

Fishing the pocket is not as good as it was in years past. used to be deeper and a lot more fish in it..

nice rod fred, looks fun and that extra reach will only bring good things.

based on reports i've read, it seems to be getting better and better so i'm hoping to make it back down again soon. note to self...i NEED to invest in some cleats. I was super careful getting out to maybe 1/4 of the jetty and it was still way too dicey. i ended up fishing the pocket more than anything.

post some pics from the hook again if you guys head east this week!

That North Jetty at IBSP always produces fish. its dangerous as he11, but a fish magnet. One can land fish from the jetty, just takes some patience and a set of big cajones...its definintely not for everyone.
