Have a chance to go to Atlantic City next week.

Might take advantage of this opportunity and do some surf fishing.

Never have been to AC before and no nothing of the beach/surf fishing in and around that area.

Any suggestions?

General locations? Flies?

What can be expected? Blues, Stripers?

Thanks in advance for any information.

I have a bud that has a boat in Toms River, I think thats where it is at, I know when we go out I can see all the casino's. My understanding is the water is still too warm for the strippers but you might hook up with some blues.

By all means do some fishing Paul - things are really going crazy along the NJ shore. AC has some good fishing nearby (the world record striped bass was caught by a surf fishermen from one of the jetties in town). I recommend Brigantine Island for surf fishing, which is just north of AC. Good luck with your trip. For some motivation, check the current thread titled "Blue Fish" posted by Fredrick. I linked to some fishing reports this week from the NJ shore.

make sure you take a few LARGE bunker patterns as they are on them like crazy...there's big blues and 20lb.+ stripers being caught on I.B.S.P. this week so you'll have a chance at them.

Thanks. Sounds good!

Couple followups.

I will be staying at Harrahs and it is on Absecon inlet.

The other side of (inlet) across from Harrahs on google maps shows several roads that lead right to the beach. (one was called Seaside Dr I think) Is it safe passage for a car? Do you need a permit?

Seems so close as to be ideal.

Thanks again sandy, Dave and Fred,LRSA!

Heres google

Also, been thinking of getting an intermediate line for the 8 wt.

Never used one.

While I am at it might as well ask.

Should I use a bite tippet? Still have one you gave me David.

How about a leader? 7 foot flouro 10-12 lb ???

Thanks for any help.

I have had good luck fishing the inlet, right along the beach up near the brigantine bridge. Fish a white clouser with pearl and silver flashabou. That was very good there. I fish a sinking line there to get down. I wade around there and work up where the water comes in. One year I had a blitz right there for hours. I usually fish thanksgiving week. I use a 20 lb flourocarbon leader to handle the blues lose a few but overall land pretty many.

I stopped using a bite tippet years ago, I just don't worry about losing a fish or 2. 20 lb. flouro or ande line works just as good. I use ande line alot for all my heavy leaders striper, blues, musky, etc.

Did'nt fish much except for a few hours this morning.

The wind howled all weekend and the water was murky.
Did'nt feel like I missed much on the fishing front. I fished the south end of Barrington just north of Atlantic City with some clousers. Did'nt get a bite nor did I see any others with fish on but it was not a full effort on part.

Only lost $38 on roulette- considerably more at the bar.

A-kid,
Glad to see you made it out to the Atlantic for some surf fishing - just another notch in your saltwater fly fishing adventures.

Fred- good info.

Wanted to fish the jetty area near the inlet but with my limited scouting time I could not find a close place to park. I am sure there are spots but did'nt have enough time to invest finding parking spots.

You are permitted to drive on the beach- if you have a permit.

I did take a drive further north by a mile or so when I was getting ready to shove off (this would be in the vicinity of 13th street) and there was a rocky shoreline there with several fishermen in that area.

FI- your right, still able to learn a couple things. Getting better at getting the line in the stripping basket.

Special thanks to afishinado for hooking me up with a new salt line!
