Paul,
In my former life as a teacher, I corrected every single grammatical error I could find in my senior college prep kids' papers. However, I was a package grader and looked more at the content than I did at the technical aspects, and most of my students did well with their English courses when they went to college. However, I did warn the kids about college profs who did not tolerate errors and encouraged the kids to eliminate certain types of errors, esp. comma splice errors. I liked to tell them the story of a history prof who failed a research report b/c it contained one technical error. If you're interested in getting your stuff published, editors will take care of the egregious grammar errors. You don't want to send in material with spelling errors and sentence fragments, though. Anyhow, I do encourage you "young lions" to write about your experiences, favorite tactics, etc. (You all know that I am one, though, who deplores k/t writing.) Good luck, and keep at it. It is a real rush to see your byline, esp. when you're young.
