today I decided to stop over to my friend Sandflys since I had not been to his fly shop to see him in a while. When I was about to leave he wanted to come out and see the fly rod I had b uilt for my wife recently. It was a 4 wt 5ft 6in batson rod. He looked at it and before I knew it he had a small reel with a 3wt line on the rod. he said this would be a nice rod for the small wild trout streams in our area but not for the streams we fish most of the year until he started to cast with it. He was making casts 60ft or more every time into the wind with the lighter line on and really liked the rod. He was very impressed with the rod as I was with his casting. Needless to say we are going over before our trip out west in a few months for some more casting lessons. We took a few lessons from him several years ago when we first started out but I forgot most what I was taught and havent practiced enough between fishing excursions.I told my wife when I was building it the rod was not practical for fishing most streams with but after seeing exactly what it can do in the right hands I guess I was wrong. Perhaps theres another build on the way here who knows.

I have a Penn 7' 4wt that's really nice that I bought about 15 years ago.

I wish Sandfly was still in Doylestown b/c I could use a lesson or two.
