I was up that the camp grouse hunting this weekend for some soft hackles. I walked the first 2 hours over clear cuts and blows downs only to hear 5/6 flush and never get a shot. Then I stumbled on what I thought was a spring. But here it was a wishing well.

I threw a penny in and said how bout a grouse, pretty non enthusiastically too. I walked about 20 feet back to the road to cross into the clear cut and one runs across the road.
He hops up on to a stump. I really can't believe it, oh well safety off. Bang.

I love these birds, they're beautiful so tough to shoot and quite a challenge. This was just meant to be and within 20 yards of the wishing well. On the bright side I'm 8/9 with my new shotgun with birds/shots fired. I think I'll head back there on the first day of deer.

"You shot a sitting still bird?" From "The Homecoming." :)
