Who else headed out with the Fly rod?

About ten years ago, I was on Clarks Creek opening day with a spinning rod. Caught a couple and realized I wasn't having fun. Went back to the car, grabbed the fly rod and I haven't used a spinning rod since.

The hole I hit usually has 15-20 other guys (it's a decent size hole) + I am a decent tight spot caster, so it works well. But, I am the ONLY one, in all these years, that shows up with a fly rod. So my my flies are floating around with a bunch of power bait, which I find humorous. I can almost always hold my own, or a little better.

Two years ago, I C&R's two breeder brookies ( 18-20") that they dumped in the hole. You get some funny looks when you slip a fish that size back in the water.

So, who else waves around a fly rod opening day?

I was out FFing today - only fished the ATWs.
I saw a handful of guys that appeared to be FFing too although I can't say for sure.

All I have used in the last 7 years has been a fly rod. Anything else just doesn't feel right.

The only spinning rods I own are two salt/surf rods and an ultra light reel on an old 7.5 ft fly rod I repaired the tip on. Kids each have spinning rod. They'll probably grow out of them someday too.

I did pretty well this morning on the conewago with olive and black wolley buggers. It gave me a chance to break in my new cabelas glass rod. I of course released every trout I caught. They were more then willing to take any sort of bait today from what I saw.

Was on Clark's with a fly rod and two others with flyrods. Didn't see anyone else with one, nor did I expect to.

I have not used a spinning rod for trout since I started flyfishing. Flyfishing and trout just go together.

I had a fly rod in the vehicle if that counts. I just walked along and watched my son fish.

I fished Muddy Creek Forks this afternoon with my UL spin. I didn't go out in the morning because of all the crowds.
I'm a avid fly guy, but with a little wind and folks packed in a small creek, I use my spin stuff.
I was really impressed with the "trout magnets" a cheapo lure from WalMart with a small soft plastic split tail on a 1/64 oz shad dart head. I use 2 lb NanoFil which has a diameter of .002 (like a 10X tippet) and I can cast the lure way too far and it has a wonderful action when jerked along the bottom.
Also, the ultimate streamer, IMHO is a Roostertail with thin line. It looks better than any Clouser or Woolybugger?
With new stockies and cold stained water, I have no problem with a spin rod........ but when the fish come to the surface, I'm a total fly guy!
Muddy Creek Forks got pretty washed out from Lee also.

I used a fly rod for the first time last opening day and have used it since then. I'm the only one who comes out with one. Caught two 9 inch Rainbows on a charteuse Wolly Bugger. I was so excited, it was my first fish on a Wolly bugger!!! :)

My cousin and I whooped up on the bait guys on the Jordan with sucker spawns. It was my first year starting with the fly rod and I will never go back. Bunch of our friends were amazed with how many hook ups we were having. I even hooked up with a 24+ 10lb+ pally. Did not land him, but it felt good to hook up with a fish that no one else could get to hit 4 hours in. SUCKER SPAWNS
We then went to the LL in the parkway in the afternoon and caught a nice olive hatch that brought some beutifull wild browns to hand. It was a great first day

I've taken the fly rod out every opening day for the last 7 years, more out of tradition tan anything else, I'll usually just hit up a few local ATW's then head out to one of my warmwater ponds after I get fed up with the crowds...after all, after the first week, I'll have those ATW's pretty much to myself, as most folks up here only go out the first week then hang it up for the year (except for, maybe, the in-season stocking dates...)

I know some very fun stocked ATW in my region that I may visit, if I want to, in another weeks or so. The big dilemma is often that around this time, mayflies are popping on the wild streams.

I fished buggers and Ipws on the quittapahilla in the morning and prince nymphs did well on the stockies at Indiantown Run. Caught lots of stockies on the fly rod. I like how it keeps guys from walking up and plopping a spinner 2 feet beside you USUALLY
