Heading up to fish Fishing Creek in Clinton County this weekend and am trying to find an open campground up in that area. Bald Eagle State Park doesn't open till mid-April and I can't seem to find anything else in that area.
Suggestions? Anyone been fishing in the area?

I've camped at ravensburg state park, which is a few miles past fishing creek. not sure when they open, but it's a nice little campground, tents only, and a brookie stream flows through it.
edit, never mind, they don't open till first weekend in may! it's tough to find open campgrounds this time of year, even with the summer-like weather right now!

You could do primitive camping in the bald eagle state forest. Don't know if there any of those sites close to fishing creek, but there are some nice ones close to penns creek. About 30 - 45 minutes away

Try Fort Bellefonte campgrounds, it's north of state college just off I-80 and might be centrally located for what you are doing

I've never stayed at either place near Bellefonte, but both are on my list.
I'd also point out Rudy's place (Hemlock Acres) near Coburn. We've had jams there in the past. As a tent camper, I like that he has some real woodsy sites, out of sight of any other sites. Instead of near RV's like so many other private campgrounds. Just ask him for such a site. Really, it's probably only 30-35 minutes to the narrows on BFC, as opposed to 25-30 from the Bellefonte area. As for alternative fishing spots nearby, you have Penns instead of Spring. Just an option. I know Rudy got a little overbearing with policing the jam's antics, and that turns some off. But put yourself in his shoes with so many permanent residents. The jam and Hemlock Acres just was not a good marriage. That doesn't mean it's not perfect for a quieter weekend getaway, and I've found Rudy to be great in those situations.

I've found Hemlock Acres to be really convenient as it is a short drive from Spring, Fishing, and of course Penns is very close by, plus there are nearby small stream options. Never had anything but good experiences there or with Rudy for that matter. Kev

Hemlock is a great CG's, good location. We've been there for about 15 years, I like the Mountain setting rather then those flat, back to back CG's. Rudy is a good man( you should have been there with the owner before him, not good). I think all the people was to much for Rudy, plus he stayed to close to the action. Great area for fishing, good streams within driving distance. PaulG

Though its not for "us" as a whole, Hemlocks great for a small outfit. Plenty close to Fishing creek.

The KOA is fine, friendly folks, clean but not modern bath facilities. But, like many other KOA's you have a perfect view of rt 80, and you will sleep soundly to the beat of diesel trucks hauling loads all night long. But then again, that is part of the KOA experience...

Fort Bellefonte is pretty cheesey. I think Clark Griswald designed the place. Rough it in a state park or Hemlock Acres.

Forget the camping for now (since many places aren't open yet) and stay at the Best Western in Lock Haven with free breakfast. Lamar is only a few miles from there. It's real comfy, and the girl behind the desk has incredible breasts! Seriously.
