Where's the rain?

We were supposed to get a good dose of rain this weekend and it didn't happen. All we got (in the Philly area) were a few light showers which didn't help at all. On the USGS stream flow chart 1/3 of Pa is in low level status, or close to it. I'm worried big time, if this trend is going to continue right into summer?

WE got some here in western PA Friday night, and there was evidence of such in Central PA, as many streams were discolored. Not necessarily high, but discolored. Happily I can report, fish will rise in discolored water to a BWO hatch! :)

The rain is hitting the dry air and evaporating as it falls, thus not hitting the ground in most areas, or just causing very light mist like rain. Some of it is a bit heavier, but not enough to make things wet and improve flows.

A good rain most of the day here in Enola. Looks like more to come next week.

The yellow breeches is up 1.5', and the flow up by 400 cf/sec thats a pretty good amount of rain.

Long time period of light rain here. Enough to make everything wet and feed the grass, not enough to affect streams much.

We got nearly 2 inches in central PA. I'll probably try to do my taxes tomorrow. Yuck. But, if we don't get any more rain, I might be able to get back on the water on Tuesday.

Variable amounts in Lancaster County; we had less than 0.2" where I live, but a farmer nearby had 0.4". I fished a stream on Saturday afternoon; the morning rain did very little to water levels or clarity of the stream. There was a brief downpour in the afternoon (great time to fish IMHO) that didn't do much to the water level but did add just a tinge to the water clarity. Some nice hatches coming off during that time..

Yes Lonewolf, that's what I'm worried about. The red and orange dots (USGS) are still covering the eastern third of the state!

Intermittent light rain in southern Lebanon County on Saturday with maybe two decent 15 minute periods of moderate rain, but I'd still call it short of a downpour. Not sure on what the total in the gauge was, but definitely was hoping for more. Drove over the usual streams on the way in to work this morning...all still low and clear.

I know everything's low now, but it's a little early to hit the panic button on the Summer IMO. A lot can happen between now and then. Just one of those legit April or May 2 day soakers and all those red/orange dots will be black/blue and everything but the little Brookie runs will be blown out for a week. From the posts above it sounds like some spots got some good rain this weekend...SE PA will get its turn at some point I'm sure.

If it does turn out to be low flows this Summer, just remember...that makes for great wading conditions in most Smallmouth streams!
