I have just about got all of my nymphs tied up. Buggers and Streamers are getting there. The classic "cheater flies"(waxworm, san juans, mealworms, suckerspawn, weenies, etc) I tied a few foam crickets and grasshoppers to use mainly as indicators with hooks.
My question is what dries do you God's Country guys like for mid April. I believe i have seen the followin in years past: BWO Dark Hendrickson Red Quill Maybe March Brown. I am mainly a nymph fisherman but want to have a full fly box for up there. Any insight is appreciated on other flies you have success on as well. I have had a lot of luck on beadheads up there in size 14 as well.

That is a good question this year - with all of the hatches starting really early.
I fished quill gordons and hendricksons a week ago now, in central pa And I would guess that, even in Gods country, they'll likley be over by then. But you still might wanna carry some with you just in case. Next in the hatching lineup would be march brown, gray fox, and sulpher mayflys. The green egg sac caddis also usually hatches opening day up there, but I would guess it will likley be over too. A #16 tan caddis is a good bet up there all spring

The change to cooler/more seasonable weather may spread out the hatch, but I agree that it is likely QGs and Hendricksons may be over, or at least winding down by mid-April. I never seen these hatches occur well before the season opens. Can anyone recall that ever happening? Get ready for the April Sulpers and early May tricos and isonychias....

Things are getting back to normal up here. The forecast highs are at or below normal averages for the next couple of weeks. Maybe some snow tonight over the higher elevations! What you have on your list is good. I would add blue quills, quill gordons, and various caddis. I would never go out fishing without a few Adams in all sizes. Another generic favorite of mine is the Usual.

WOW didnt expect such detailed replies so quick. Thanks for the insight guys. You guys are lucky to live up there. I tie at my desk at lunch and should be wrapping upon my nymphs by middle of next week. I will bring my dryfly stuff for next week. Not really good at tying up there but from what i have seen in the past when the red quill and hendrickson come off its boiling water and not even a waxworm will get them too hit.
Any luck with emergers, i think i could tie them a lot better than dries. Are those ever fished with an indicator and a small amount of line? Sorry for sounding dumb but i am a diehard nympher and want to expand with the sub surface and airial attacks. :)

Mike, I was in the same spot where I saw you last year and pounded them Sunday afternoon on red quills. The water was boiling and the one guy fishing bait across from me couldn't buy a bite. I had nonstop action for 2 hours. With this weather, it will be interesting to see what happens. I also agree with the little tan elk hair caddis usually working good up there.

steelhead will you be hitting up the allegheny this year. My uncle Dan and Bob will be stocking it this weekend. I may hit that up around lunch after i tear up the hole at Freeman. LOL. I like to wade out to that pillar and hit where most of the trout lay. I get looked at like a nut but i caught a ton by doing that. Can't wait to get some of my better looking nymphs in there. Last year i nailed a 17 3/4" Golden on my beadhead waxworm fly. LOL
My new goled killer will be an egg patern with a bit of white to simulate a waxworm on it. I will only use these Golden Killers after i try my nymphs. Been playing with that Natural Skin stuff and it looks neat. Hope to see you up there again and maybe have a beer creekside. Good luck if i dont see you.

Yeah, I'll be there in the am and probably hit that spot around noon or so. I will have to keep a few in my cooler. You guys should swing by Saturday night. I think we're deep frying turkey and a ppile of wings plus plenty of cold ones.

My dad is in the same boat. Triple by-pass, valve replacement, and repaired an aneurism. Stop over when you can. I got a lot of tying to do before I head up. I think I'm going to Gander to get some materials after work.

What pray tell is a dark hendrickson?
I'll have the usual early season flies Blue Quills Gordons and Hendricksons pheasant tail nymphs and the premier hatch of the early season the royal wulff. I probably won't use anything else because all the early hatches will be over.
