I read that mike heck sometimes fishes a wet 4"-6" behind a dry in the film.

The idea is the dry acts as an attractor n the cripple seals the deal....

Anyone done that ? - I'm interested to try it. Landing will be a bitch.

Something else you might want to try with a dry/wet combo, although you need to put a couple of feet of leader between the two: use the wet as anchor, and you can lift the dry off the water a inch or so. (Obviously, the flies will be downstream of you.) Raising and lowering the rod tip will bounce the fly up and down, like an ovipositing natural. I find in especially useful during the sulfur hatch on heavily fished waters.

Red, I was thinking that two flies that close together might mean that there's big potential for a snarled up net and or cut fingers especially at dusk.

I'm still reading Charlie Fox btw, he fished #6 silver doctors and professors wet at night on the allegheny, and fished riffled hitched wets too - some with underwings.

The only time I've ever seriously hooked myself because of two fly rig was when I was releasing a fish that had taken the top fly, and as soon as I let go of the fish, it grabbed the bottom fly, which at that point was tangling in the water. I still had the top fly in my fingers, and the fish pulled into my thumb up to the bend. I had to net the fish a second time before I could pull the hook loose.

Needless to say, that sort of thing doesn't happen very often.
