Does anybody fish old school wet flies anymore???

I do, the old school style work for sure. Dave ( Wetflyguy) fishes them alot. Maybe he'll see this and chime in. I don't have just one favorite pattern, the size and color of what is active is how I work with it.

yep, love to tie and fish wets, especially soft hackles.

All the time.

Favorite winged wets: Dark Hendrickson wet, Leadwing Coachman, Wickham's Fancy, Pale Evening Dun, March Brown (winged).

Favorite Hackles (i.e. wingless): Partridge and Orange, Snipe and Purple, Brown Hackle Peacock, Stewart's Black, Light Spanish Needle, March Brown spider.

My 3 favorite old school wet flies are Picket Pin, Leadwing Coachman, Cowdung. I fish wet flies exclusively throughout the entire season. And I do have my favorites for the different streams I fish. Along with the old traditional wets I fish lots of soft hackles and flymphs. Been fishing nothing but these flies for quite sometime and the old traditional wets are still productive today as they were back in the day. I don't quite understand why more fly fishermen today aren't fishing these flies. It's a great relaxing method to fly fish and you'll land lots of fish and lose lots to. But still the action is great.

Since the day I started FFg in 1967.

Shakey was kind enough to send me a whole slew of wet flies. Now I just need him to show me how to fish them!

i've been known to use wet flies.

My general experience is that any fly that has survived for more than 100 years and is still being used catches a lot of fish. Traditional wets cover that pretty well.

All the flies mentioned above are good ones - there are tons of good wet flies. I like a Teal, Blue, and Silver for my bright fly and a Pass Lake for my dull fly.

Gold Ribbed Hares Ears - whether in soft hackle or winged form - are one of the basic, all purpose wets and have been fooling fish for more than 500 years.

Brown and Gray Hackle Peacock flies cover a lot of caddis hatches.

Little wets with starling hackle make good midge and olive wets.

Something yellow - Light Cahill, Little Marryatt, partridge and yellow, etc - is worth a swing in sulphur season if your dries aren't living up to expectations.

Like anything simple, you can catch fish by down and across swings or letting them hang or you can develop all sorts of special presentations to get some movement. It can be as simple or sophisticated as you want to take it.
