I know, I know this is PAflyfish forum, but in SW PA there are almost more trout streams within an hour in WV than there are in PA. Before I drive to several of these streams, and pay the out-of-state license price, has anyone fished in WV? I am mainly looking to fish Buffalo Creek, Tomlinson Run, Kings Creek, Wheeling and Middle Wheeling Creek and the North and South Fork of Fishing Creek. Then, I know there are some great trout streams like seneca, cranberry etc. that are def more than an hr drive, but could be a weekend thing. I am most interested in if these streams hold fish through the summer, or atleast till late june/july, because I work in coraopolis and once the summer hours kick in, I can be on Tomlinson and Kings in 25 mins. I am assuming Middle Wheeling holds fish throughout the year because it is catch and release. Anyways, any info on the quality of fishing would be much appreciated, thanks.

I'm not sure if about any of those creek, but I've been planning a trip to WV for early May in Monongahela NF. The guys on the forum over at WV Angler have been more than helpful in pointing me in the right direction. Might want to try there as well.

I'm not too sure about the Wheeling area streams. I doubt there's many hold over fish unless we have an extremely mild summer. There's really not much in the way of great trout fishing in north central WV either. A few stocked streams that are not worth your time. The Cranberry, Seneca, Williams, Elk, etc are all a little over 2 hours from Morgantown and are well worth the trip especially if you make a weekend of it. Most have CnR sections and will hold trout year round. Some of the better areas you need to hike a good ways to reach such as Seneca and the CnR section of Cranberry and it tribs. I stick mostly to the Laurel Highlands area and Western Maryland on short trips which is all I seem to have time for any more.

What laural highlands streams are you fishing? Depending on what part of SW pa you are in Yellow creek is always an option in bedford county. A few streams in Cambria but they get pounded and you don't seem like a guy that likes a lot of company.

Having lived in WV several years ago, I would really suggest that you consider a trip to the Elk. Big fish, good water temperatures in the summer, tremendous hatches and good people at the Elk Springs Fly Shop. Go to wvangler.com website for more information.

Tebolt and Quebec Run are the closest streams to me. I've hit them a few times this year. I can bike in fairly easily. The trip out is another story.. Sometimes I'll head over to Dunbar. Went last Saturday only to find the bait guys hit the FFO hard. Nearly cleaned out. Sucked. I head over to Meadow Run occasionally, but really like the Yough bike in section. Gotta hit it early or late before the floaters take over. I think Yellow Creek is a little over an hour away. It's on my list.
