Stream access to those in wheelchairs

Hello everyone,

My ten year old son recently had to have some surgery that will limit his access to streams due to the fact that he will temporarily
be in a wheelchair. So my question is, does anyone out there know of a good place that I can take him to, that can be accessed by someone in a wheelchair. With the way the weather has been I really want to get him out for some FFG. He needs it after what he has been through....I do too.

Thanks in advance!

Rudeone

Not sure how far you are from the Little Lehigh but that has tons of trails right along the water with easy open access on a wheelchair

On Spring Creek, there is a handicapped platform at the big PFBC access upstream from Route 550.

Also, at Fishermans Paradise, there are some areas where the banks are groomed, and he might be able to fish.

Flyfishing streams from a wheelchair is simply a very limited thing, just because the logistics of the situation. The angler can only reach a few fish, and after a few casts, they're spooked.

I think spinfishing at lakes and ponds is a much better choice. Because at a lake, and with spin gear, the angler can cover a lot more water, and present his offerings to a lot more fish.

I saw a handicapped guy fishing at the lake at Sinnemahoning State Park and he was doing very well, catching a bunch of trout.

Second buffalo's post. Clark's creek has a nice special reg section for disabled. Freshly stocked as well.

From Canonsburg, the Youghiogheny is a short drive. Head for Confluence PA right at the base of the dam - they have a sizeable pad and ramp system for wheelchairs plus abundant fish.

Yough.
Not a stream...but lake aurthur, north shore at the out flow has one. Up by the nature center and sightseeing boat dock.

Not an official spot, but neshannock has spot right behind the shop and down the trail that are reachable....although I don't know the condition of the trail.

Speedy recovery to him.

Deer Lakes Park
1090 Bailey Run Road Tarentum, PA 15084

I take the kids here all the time. They have several places that have the access you are looking for. They also stock the tar out of it. Bass and bluegill as well.

Good luck !

Wish I could help with suggestions, but I'm in the opposite corner of the state. I do send my prayers for a quick and complete recovery for your son.

Enjoy your time fishing together.

There's a nice handicapped access spot on the lower Little J downstream from Green Hills CG. It's actually in a pretty decent spot, that is to say it's a spot that holds fish. Some of the other handicapped access areas are constructed without much thought about whether the area is gool holding water or not.
