I've been working on streamers for the salmon/steelhead run. I have had success before, but that link has me optimistic about some better results this year.

I've had a little bit of success with streamers, but not too much. White seems to be good and I'll try some of my new marabou streamers. The easter grass wrapped bodys might be a good imitation of the emerald shiners. I've caught some fish on buggers, but usually dead drifted; rarely get a hit on a strip presentation. Now the Salmon might be a different story, but I might not get to that chapter till next fall.

Even if I don't catch much on them, I like tying bunny flies. It's worth it anyway.

Not yet, it's my goal to though. Tied up a few bombers last year but never tied one on. Saw a sparse caddis hatch last year and tied on an EHC but no such luck. Best bet is probably to hit Ohio because they stay in the streams a bit longer, I heard till May.

I have heard rumors of springtime salmon river fish on BWOs. They certainly are hungry during dropback time, so I wouldn't doubt it.

I landed a steelhead on a size 18 BWO at Upper Elk two years ago. Saw it rise to the surface a few times and could not see anything, but thought it must be midges. Smallest thing I had was the BWO and I think it only took one or two drifts before she rose and snatched it off the surface. Have only tried a dry a few times since then with no luck.

If that was the day I was with you I can vouch for that but I believe it was an BWO emerger. I think that was the fish I took home.

A cdc loopwing emerger is correct. That doesn't count then? It was on the top.

Oh no! it counts!...just seeing if we were remembering the same fish. I was impressed (read jealous) anyway.

It's nothing more than a floating nymph. I'm amazed you didn't use a thingamabobber.

The thingamabobber was not yet invented, lost in a streamside bush and subsequently retrieved by me. I will tell you, though, I plan to have a supply of them for this season. Best bobber made for steelhead fly fishing.

steelhead will run when the daylight hours change , the daylight hours change also changes air and water temps , but i think ultimately the daylight hours changing makes them run !!!
