Not sure if this video has been posted. I did a few searches to check. I cant believe how fast the process is when the nymphs start hatching from the eggs. WOW.

I had not seen that before. Very cool. I know it was fast but had no idea. Thanks for posting that.

Stroud is an amazing place to say the least. Every year they had a outdoor festival and I was in a ffing club called the Whiteclay Flyfishers in Delaware and we would set up some tables and do tying and casting demo's we were always well received by the attendees & the people at Stroud. It was always a good time. Really cool vid.

I was afraid it was going to be "damsels in distress." Sweet video mike.

You realize that this species, Cloeon cognatum, is the exception rather than the rule. Most mayflies lay the eggs soon after mating and there is a period of days before they hatch.

Didn't know that but thanks for the info. Just think how this would have to work. Doesn't courtship happen and then a very short time after the eggs are laid.

And yes the damsel video was cool but I think this is more wild.

Yes, for most mayfly species. The mayfly in the video is an exception, the female keeps the fertilized eggs until they are ready to hatch.

I am no expert on mayflies, this info was on the UTube page below the video.

So if I were a trout, I'd be looking for that mayfly to land on the water and grab it before it laid all of those eggs. I'm amazed at how many eggs there are.

That is amazing video.

I'm surprised at how many eggs there are.

I wish they had a close-up of the little nymphs. It looks like they climbing up the side of the glass aquarium. Isn't that kind of surprising for an aquatic creature? I'd think the little baby nymphs would need to stay in the water to survive.

Even if this species is the exception it is still remarkable and gives a great idea of what goes on even if it takes several days. Pretty cool.

I'm not sure if the nymphs are climbing the walls or if it is just a reflection of those that swim up into the film. Either way, still cool.
