I like to see all the smiling faces of kids from as young as a couple years old to as old as 90 or more. It is also a nice idea if you are among the throngs, to take some garbage bags and encourage the slobs to help you fill it up with their garbage.

Laughed my a** off this morning. 15 minutes till 8I guys walking half way in the stream getting ready to fish. What about the fish they just passed up. So then a guy starts fishing right behind them, a fly guy using a spinning real set up with corn and a goober. I think he caught more than any of the others. Lmao.

Powerbait is great, can buy a few jars a year and keep it in the tackle boxes. my kids use it for trout and panfish, it is handy having it around if we are camping and find a place to fish but dont have bait. Of course they have fly rods too.

I prefer to catch fish on a fly rod and it is usually my first choice but I have no moral issues with tossing a rooster tail or night crawler.

Heck we have a couple spots where they just use a couple pieces of bread for catching bluegill, cheaper than Powerbait or live bait.

Dunno why but was never a corn person.

One thing to remember about stereotypes is that for every bait fisher that litters and gives them a bad name there is a snobby fly fisher that gives them a bad name.

These are good points, just remember that there are lots of use who take care of our Trout waters. On opening day, I hooked a 6 inch Brownie, which surprised me and let him go unharmed. The guy next to me looked at me like I was nuts!!! I believe in conservation and explained it to him. I believe he has a little more respect for Trout. One person at a time.

Yeah, so very true. It's really the type of people.
I love fly fishing, and I go out quite a bit!
When I see a fly fisherman, usually a mature guy with a nice outfit. I watch him cast and I know he will be a pleasure to chat with. Usually college educated, and will never toss trash in the water. These type of people love the creeks as much as I do and will never wreck things.
The guys who look semi retarded, cursing and spitting in the water and usually using Power Bait (that they smear on their shirts) are not the guys I chat with. Not that I'm a elitist? I'm just a normal guy, but we have nothing in common, so why should I get upset?
Less good water now, and lots more people fishing...... but still some decent folks around, especially the ones with a nice fly rod in their hand!

I know what to expect on opening day. I use my fly rod and just roll with the craziness. Saw one poor guy take a header in about 2.5' of water. Everything went under but his head. He wasn't hurt and he had a lot of friends there, so he took a lot of ribbing.

Was out with my son opening day and just stood back and laughed.
People walking down the middle of the stream and also standing where the fish are.going back out this PM maybe most will have their limits by then.I do love the comic relief though

I have a lot of fond memories of fishing the first day, along with my Dad, Sons and friends, so I still like to be around on the first day.

Now days I enjoy going down to the open water on Penns and watching the kids and their parents and take some pics. Alot of times I wait till the afternoon and fish myself.

I hope I see a lot more of them.

Wasnt able to make it opening day because of work, but took my girlfriends kids (which I do live with) fishing with my father, Itwasnt busy, but to us it was opening day, we had a blast!!!! Her son caught one (a crappie) and to see his smile was awesome!! Made me think of the times it was just me and my father. So today I can say was the passing of the torch.....My dad just stood back and watched me "teach" them how to fish.... But I know for sure if I was off yesturday....we would have been out there despite the rain. Hell.....if it DOESNT rain on opening day, it doesnt feel like opening day to me LOL!!

I actually love opening day. It means in a few weeks I can fish any stream in the area and catch fish, and pretty much have the entire stream to myself.

As far as "fishing" on opening day... nowhere there is a crowd... that's for sure.

I loves the first day of trout. One year I didn't take off work for it and I was more then just a tad miserable.

My routine now has been working at the foodstands for our TU. I had some very nice conversations with anglers that were fishing with power bait, nightcrawlers and perhaps they even spit in the creek. I don't know if they had college educations and don't care as that is of no consequrence to me. They were all very appreciative of what TU does for the watershed and supported our efforts by purchasing food and chapter merchandise. They were all out there having a good time and so was I. I likes them people.

Just driving around in southern York co and seeing all these yahoos throwing corn and bread at all these stocked fish makes me sick. Theses idiots just killing all these fish that could make for a great population of trout in these nice little streams near where I live. It's tears me apart to know that all these fish stocked holdovers and natives are going to be disturbed by people that have no idea what a majestic creature trout are. POWERBAIT and CORN!!!! Are you seriously going to use that to catch trout, it's just crazy to me. And to top it off I garentee 95% of the people out there in the next few weeks don't have any idea what a hatch is. Just letting it out after stopping by an old fishing hole seeing all these nice fish swimming around knowing all of them will be on a stringer tomorrow then probably just get put in a freezer bag and left in the bottom of the freezer like the trout from previous years and never eaten anyways!!!!

I dont think its fair or accurate to use words like "yahoos", "idiots", and "retards"(from another post) to describe people that you dont even know. Just because someone doesnt fish the same way you do does not make them any less of a person than you, or you any better then them. In the past I worked in a tackle/fly shop, I have met thousands of fisherman. Believe me, I have met alot of fly fisherman that could be described with the same words that you used for the Powerbait fisherman.

Good luck, Tony

I couldnt agree more with you Tony. i wasnt going to post anything in this thread because the way the OP talked about others disgusted me. Who cares if you use corn, cheese, powerbait, hooks tied to a feather, or bread. If you dont like it STAY AT HOME. dont complain about the way others fish. Your way of fishing isnt superior neither is your attitude. Your absolutely correct Tony.
