Not being a smart "A" or anything but is it considered bad form to comment on a old thread that someone new to the forum has relevant information on?

Agreed. In fact, Rangerwilly, the new guy on here, did a good thing. Rather than starting a thread about something that has been talked to death a hundred times, he went back to the archives and searched for topics that interested him.

BTW, what's your go-to trout fly?

I agree as well. How many times does a new guy ask about something that has been discussed in the past and one of our "helpful" members throws up a "helpful" comment about it being a subject that has been talked to death then throwing up the link to the old thread. Now a guy tries to use the search function and we don't like that either. Oh well, can't please everyone I suppose.

It isn't necessarily bad form and I've done it on occasion myself when new information or developments have come to light.
However, refreshing very old threads (multiple years) can cause confusion since the information is dated so we don't encourage this. If you're going to do this, it is a courtesy to our readership to indicate at the beginning of your new post that it is in fact refreshing a topic from previous years.

The beginning of this thread is pure gold... I for one was ecstatic it was bumped to the top!

So is there a reason for the bump?

Runk passed away also. So did the guy that ran The Orvis Shop
in the town of Cross Fork, I will remeber his name later.

That was Charlie Stone, who people called "Stoney." He was a great storyteller, a real fun guy to talk to.

Is there any business in that building now?

Is there a way to do that? I would love to know if there is a way.

troutbert,

I remember right after I bought my place on Kettle in 1990. Stoney had passed away and his wife and son ran the Orvis shop for about two or three years then it closed. It sat vacant for a while and now the place is someones residents. I heard Stoney was great guy and as you said a good storyteller and and good fly fisherman.

Stoney's wife ran a small restaurant - called Erm's - in the same building as the fly shop. I used to go in there for breakfast every morning - just to get all of the scoop in the area from Stoney.

If I remember correctly, the OP of this thread stated that he tied leaders professionally. And he offered to send anyone a leader, for free. Pretty generous gesture.
Anyone know what happened to maxima?

Considering three new threads emerged with updated information, seems to me the person who revived the thread knew of a need not recognized by the members shooting off the harsher responses
