Out of all the people on tv that fish salt water he was my favorite. He fished for everything and was ready for any kind of fish that came his way. Definitely sad about his death!

Wow, I'm really bummed.

About 15 years ago I read an article he was in that listed his PH#. So I called it to book a trip. What the heck, why not try, right? He didn't answer so I left a message.

About a week later he called me back (!) and said "Um, Mike, this Jose. I got your message. I don't really have time to guide anymore. Sorry about that. thanks for calling."

I couldn’t believe I had him on my answering machine!

RIP, dude. You were a class act.

Yeah, he was a class act all the way. My buddy in Florida knew him pretty well and said hands down he was the best fisherman he'd ever seen and a equally cool guy. Not to often guys like him come around. RIP Jose!

OMG, What a shame I really enjoyed his show. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

Not only did he have a great show, he seemed like a genuinely good guy, and was undoubtedly an important salt water conservationist. A life ended too short, but I think all of us would be happy to experience 10% of what Jose did in his time here on earth.

RIP, Jose!

Ditto what everyone else said, too.

Very sad.

Very well respected in the Keys. I watched him throw about a 14 ft. cast net and it was perfect "a pie" . To watch him you could see that he was knowledgable and very versitile in his approach to various species in the Lower Keys . He had some really nice boats over the years. He will be missed. GG
