If your're not fishing, what are you waiting for?

The fishing for many species has really been picking up over the past week and it has been down right excellent for one. Shad reports are already coming in from the stretch of the Delaware between Trenton and Easton...two to three weeks earlier than normal. Flows are excellent for fishing. Numerous species have made or are making their annual short-lived venture into the shallowest lake coves on the leeward sides of lakes. Crappie fishing has been spectacular, particularly in the hour before and the hour after dark. Muskellunge fishing will probably not get any better than it is right now near lake surfaces (where there is a thin layer of warm water to which they are attracted) and at the mouths of major tribs to major rivers. This may be because the sucker run is on. Carp are in the same shallow coves as crappies, and striped bass hybrids, the largest channel cats in these lakes, smallmouth, and largemouth bass are heading for those coves as well..........all due to warmer water temps there and in some cases the abundance of bait fish attracted to those warm temps. This pattern will only last while there is a significant temperature difference between the coves and the main lake bodies.........usually a week or two, and many fish that are caught are the larger specimens of each species in the lakes. If you must, try for a few trout in your local DHALO or FFO area, which has probably already been stocked. For my part, my friends and I have been concentrating on 12-15 inch black crappies, but we'll soon be investigating the shad and striped bass hybrid fishing. This has been one of the best starts to good fishing in years. Don't miss it (after all, there's no grass to mow...yet).

So many fish - so little time.

Who cares about fresh stocked trout? The Warm Water Insurgents are having a blast.

Yup.

Saturday I'm taking a kid from our church out on the Tully. He just moved here from NC (or SC, same difference, right?). He used to fly fish a lot down there, and a lot at his uncle's place out in Idaho, but hasn't gone FFing here in PA since moving here in August. He's really excited to go.

I've had a blast the last two evenings in a local creek with terrestrials. Been throwing foam mini-hoppers and getting constant topwater action on some bluegills and rockbass. even missed a couple of average sized largemouths on them.

Prolly continue my assault on class a's an wilderness streams. I usually don't get into the swing of my ww fishing until may/June. Good luck to all who are already after the ww.

Time!

Work days, baby duty on evenings, sometimes on weekends too. 2 weeks ago, parents came to visit. Last weekend, my brother and his family. This weekend, in-laws! Next weekend, PAFF newbie jam and baby duty on Sunday.

Sigh. Beautiful weather, no time. Gonna be into April before I make my 3rd freakin trip of the year....

Doing my best Mike! Even took a vacation day, yesterday, just to make sure I got my fishing hours in this week.

Plus I twisted Dan's arm (Not!) until he agreed to come with me. I should get bonus credit got that!

Squatch, What time are you going? I have a lax game at 11, but I'm going to try to get to the Tully for an hour or 3 after my game, before I have to head to a St. Patty's day party. I should probably get there around 1:30 or so.
