Nice bug display and that looks like a pig in the net. I saw all those bugs on saturday before memorial day as well. The wind was nuts though.

That was a big in. I took 3 off the same bank in a 50 yd section that were all like that one. The day before, I lost one that will haunt me. Thought I had him whipped so I ran after him with the net. He freaked when he saw me coming and snapped 3x like it was 7x.

I'm just elated that you're catch fish with FINS! LOL!

Nicely done Kray!

So, what did the big boy take? Let me guess... a caddis?

Of the 3 big fish, 2 took green drake emergers which I force fed them as I watched them eat sulphurs. Can't pass up a meal like that. One of the other good fish took a #18 sulphur cripple. At times the amount of biomass on the surface was staggering. I can't get the video off of my camera but have a 20 second shot of a charcoal caddis swarm coming back to drop eggs. It was a grannom hatch x5. I've never seen anything like it. The fish weren't eating them though. Go figure.

Cool pics. Was on the west branch a few days before that and saw similar bugs but minus the fatty in the net.

They are in there. You just have to locate them which is easier said than done due to the size of the pools. I might pass on 15 steady risers to find the one I want to cast to. There's just a lot of things that need to fall into place up there...wind, sun or lack of, temps, flows, clarity, hatches, fishing pressure, boat traffic, barometric pressure. If you can get all of the variables to align, you can have good / great days but it doesn’t happen often.

That sulphur spinner pic is the perfect profile for how to tie a fly - great pictures!

Which ones do you cast to? How do you decide? Why float by a steady riser without trying to cover the fish with a decent cast and drift?

I would also have a very hard time passing up any risers.
Some of the biggest fish I've caught up there, made the tiniest little rise form

Well, I make a executive decision based on ride form, fish holding area, past experience sprinkled with luck. I took one on Wednesday that taped just over 20". I was passing the fish up but my partner insisted that I cast to it. It's a bit of guess work but I'll stand by my method.

I've passed on risers as well, especially when you see a pod of fish porpoising near the banks. I understand what Andy is saying. Its hard to pass on risers but with experience sometimes you know a big fish by the riseform.
