It'll take a couple of days for the streams to cool down.

oh I fish lil mountain brookie streams and water temps havent really been an issue. I am just tired of hiking around in the heat... some mid70s daytime highs will help!

The surface and bottom water temperatures along the eastern OH and PA Lake Erie coast are still bouncing between 74-76F. We need some cool weather to get that temp pushing 58-60F along the coast to get them (strongly) moving. The good news is that the Erie, PA 10 day forecast is showing moderate temps with daytime highs below 80F. The next few nights will be in the 50s and then moderating in the mid 60s. So, we're headed in the right direction and September is just around the corner. Although we get some hot days in September, the nights start to cool pretty quickly. Hopefully about 4 weeks from now we'll start seeing a few fish in the creeks (assuming we get some rain of course). Hang in there folks...it's coming.

I have a feeling the run will be a few weeks behind this year. Temps are all well and good, but water levels of the streams and lake are pretty low. It's going to take a good amount of rain to get things up to a level to start the run.

That said, my salmon tip is about a week later than last year and I'm hoping my prediction holds true and we hit it just right.

BTW, a buddy of mine is a fisheries biologist for Cleveland MetroParks. He was electro-surverying the lower Rocky River yesterday and found 2 really nice steelhead. They are starting to stage (in small numbers I'm sure) and biding their time. Obviously the PA tribs barely have any water right now, but once the rains come, things will get moving if the projected weather patterns hold true.

I should have drove over to the Rocky this morning...I'm sure guys were down there fishing after seeing those pics. The insanity is close....

So what's new or different?Every year it starts in Sept and I can't wait to fight those Kings and Coho on the SR.
I'll be fishing those western tribs end of Oct. until April.

Always a few close to shore in the predawn. I fished over fishable numbers in Aug. I would not call it a run though. From the fish I observed they were usally Mich stocked fish.
