I hate spiders to the enth degree, especially wolf spiders. My son has a permanent scar on his arm and my brother in law had an ugly purple thumb from a spider bite. I believe my brother in law was bitten by an Orb spider.

I have seen a lot of them on trees blown down across streams in Sullivan luzerne in the fall 11 tropical storm. one place with a lot of them, and not many fish, is Hayes / black creek near fourth run. coincidence ?:)

Yep, that is a fishing spider. The thing that surprises me is how far north they live. I usually think of big spiders as a semi-tropical thing, but I've seen those guys in extreme northern New Hampshire and even Ontario.
