You are obviously too young to remember "Laugh-In"

No way, geezer, I remember when Nick at Night would run that at like 2am....I put it in my Funk and Wagnel.

As a Flyers fan, it doesn't matter to you that they haven't won The Cup in 35 years? I find that hard to believe.

It's really pretty irrelevant to me. The entire organization has turned over how many times in that timeframe. The only constant is the team name.

I understand that sentimentality comes along with sports, but there is no rational basis for it. I enjoy the team's past, but it holds no bearing on the present. The modern era is what holds my interest.

To attempt to disarm my commentary with a quip about the last time the team won the cup tells me that there's really nothing better to say about the team right now. I am comfortable with that.

Ahem...

Fleury LOL.

That is all.

That just doesn't sound good, Mr. Mensterfacher.

How are you getting to the show this weekend?

I think you are lying to yourself here. Why not just start the season rooting for the team with the best chance of winning the Cup, then? If the Flyers as an enduring team entity (what did you said, nothing but a name?) isn't what it is about for you, you are certainly not following a rational path supporting them when you know there are other teams more likely to win the Cup. Or is this year really different?

It's not about supporting the team with the best chances of winning the cup - something you know little about.

I have a tradition of supporting the flyers throughout my life. That said, my enjoyment of the team's current success has nothing to do with past successes. The past doesn't win games.

My support of the team is continuous, yet the hourglass is reset each october. The past is irrelevant, other than giving me a starting point for when things start anew.

Though, perhaps you're partially right. The past is worthy of reliving from time to time. It's certainly not worthy of overriding current successes (the flyers) or failures (the pens). That's where your logic fails.

I think Redsun and I are gonna haul him. I'm carrying those two with me since I can't carry concealed in NJ.

While I'm incoherently babbling, and since he's on the tv right now losing to the flyers, I am reminded to post your nightly moment of zen.

Have you ever... EVER seen a more pathetic, lazy, uninspired, disgusting effort by a defenseman? Here's a bit of the past that I don't mind reliving from time to time. How I will miss the gonchar years.

In other news, I believe the flyers have scored 18 goals in 2 and 2/3 games.

The defenseman that gently shrugs his forearm then takes a good 3 seconds to turn around after he's been passed. The guy that pens fans insisted that they couldn't afford to lose.

Actually, it will be at least 36 years, bot who's counting.

Seriously though. I agree with Jay that it is irrelevant at least for the most part.

The fact that someone can remain a fan of a team that hasn't won for so long just means to me that they are a loyal and dedicated fan.

If the Pens hadn't won in that long, how many of you would still be so vocal as fans.

Heck, if the Penguins had not won, they would not even have a team in Pittsburgh.
