These are almost certainly pellet-fed fish from the property below. Beaver and the empire control the left bank of the downstream property, and these are probably fish that he has stocked there to the detriment of the wild browns in the stream. I know it's not the fish's fault they are rainbows, but the stream is better off without them, IMO. Even though the Harvey property is c/r water, it would be better for the stream if you snapped the necks of any you caught. Then, just hang the poor things on the cable at the lower end of the Harvey water.

rrt's comment made me wonder, could it be a team of fishermen that actually carried out a population control? I doubt it, but then again I know someone who has proudly announced such acts against the Beav.

I know of such a person also. His hearts in the right place, but his head is tainted.
Used to post here before he was kicked off.

The only time I saw fish dead like that was when the liquid manure got in the water and killed a bunch of trout in Elk Creek.

I would suspect that this might be a result of some problem with the private water pellet hogs rather than contamination as the latter would have, presumably, caused mortality in the smaller trout and non-trout species too. About 23 years ago there was a manure spill in Warriors Mark Run that caused a major die off in Spruce Creek but that event killed fish of all species and sizes. Some of the big 'bows in the Harvey stretch do attempt to spawn in the autumn (I have seen that in past years - not sure about this year) and they may have somehow done themselves in.
Nevertheless, I agree with those who have recommended that something like this ought to be reported.

I am a little familiar with Spruce Creek, as I have fished it once or twice. My brother had a friend that lived on it until recently and we had an occasion to fish it two years ago. I don't want to hijack the topic, but I am intrigued by the "Evil Empire" and exactly what that means. Can someone explain? If you would rather do it in a PM, that's fine.

Yeah, handle it in a PM.

Plenty of threads on here about “The Evil Empire” (SRC / Homewaters). Here is just a sampling, but you should get the idea:

I'm beginning to favor The Dude's theory. Only the big pig rainbows are dead, not any wild browns. No report of water quality problems (color, smell etc.)

Rainbows are normally spring spawners, not fall spawners, so the spawning stress theory is probably not correct.

Probably the big pellet-fed rainbows come up out of the downstream fee fishing operations and into the PSU stretch to eat the eggs of the spawning wild browns.

Someone who knows about that and dislikes the fee fishing operations went there and caught the big pig rainbows, killed them and left them there.

Just a theory, who knows for sure.

It would be logical for a stooge of that "empire" to browse a thread such as this to see if the person responsible decided to brag about it in a forum.

Maybe he just bought a bad batch of new fish and they all died. It happens. Maybe he had a client that was releasing his fish improperly.

Thanks for the info guys. I had heard about this some time back, since my brother lives in State College. I remember him telling me about Beaver losing the appeal.
