Here's a recent thread on them but I don't think specific streams were mentioned:

Cicadas

Here's a Penn State chart by year and county (near the bottom of the page):

Does anyone fish this one 17 years ago?

I'm particularly interested in whether they emerged in significant numbers in the northern counties on that list, or were there just a few here and there.

I can vividly remember the cicada hatch of 1996. I work in the woods and the company I worked for in '96 was based in Berks County. There were areas in the southeastern counties where the bugs were everywhere! Unfortunately back in '96 I wasn't smart enough to tie some up and fish them. I really don't know what the intensity was in the northern counties. Guarantee I will have some with me this year just in case. I'm hoping to get into some smallie action on Cicadas this year.

Cicada fishing is worth a drive to do it if they are coming off in big numbers. Best time of my fishing life was the central pa emergence.

Not sure of the far northern counties, but Clark's was pretty thick with them. I was seven when this brood hit in '79 and it was epic in northern Dauphin/Schuylkill counties, but seemed slightly diminished, although still heavy in '96.

You guys who fish for smallmouth on streams like the Conestoga and Swatara Creek and similar waters might be in for some fun.

Also, carp go crazy for cicadas. They get very active and hit the cicadas on the surface. Mill Creek and Conestoga Creek should be good for carp in Lancaster County.

Never thought of that. Swatty's at the bottom of my hill. Might be a good summer.

I really hope the carp thing works out. That'll just be a whole lot of fun!

I was out carp fishing late last night under some street lights (only had one hook up and got wrapped around a log) and there were a few beasts (10 lbs+) that were smashing bugs on the surface. I know they werent cicadas because I couldnt hear anything and I didnt see anything on the surface so I'm not sure what they were taking but they were literally porpoising straight up out of the water.

Those carp may have been spawning and not feeding. I have seen that this time of year. They go nuts like that.

When the spawn is over then it will be game on. If the cicadas pop in SE PA it should be an awesome experience if I can get one on top. I am patiently waiting . . .

CL- You're near me right? I'm in Perkasie. I was on the EB Perk in Sellersville. That thing is LOADED with freshwater bonefish.

Yup. Not far from you. Down near Lansdale. I have never tried to target them on the EB Perk, but I am familiar with that section of the EB. I have fished it for stockies many times over the years.
