Was doing some cleaning on a metal box and went outside to rinse at spigot. Called 911 about a strong chemical smell that made me sick. 10 minutes later they call back and said state trouper checked. I saw him drive by with his windows closed, told the 911 operater about it and he got smart and said I could call the baracks, which I did. The desk bimbo said they could call fire dept, which I said yes to. they came out and checked my house 3 times for fire or gas leaks, i told them it came from down the valley. they didn't check either. of 20 people they all had bad noses and could not smell i was told. BULL crap...so now i'm going to have an interview with news paper and am clling local tv stations. and the DEP hopefully..

who knows what it could be at this point, but the fact that there are numerous wells all around sandfly's area shouldn't be discounted.

I understand your plight. About ten or so years ago I tried to get the DEP/State involved in a situation in Wrightsville. Wrightsville draws it's drinking water from a quarry that's about 50 yards from a quarry that was filled with industrial material from a local manufacturer. It was very interesting. In the dead of winter, January/February the trees were quickly cut down and then the quarry was quickly semi-filled and then a new ballpark with a giant fence was installed. Glad I don't drink that water anymore.
The field during the time I lived there was rarely used, and the gate (with a camera) was always locked.

It is hard to get anyone to act on things like what you are sharing about. Everyone wants to pretend that "it just couldn't be from the mining, oh no" I think some times half the people (I know it is most of them, not half but I want to be in denial too) that are to be watching over stuff for us, who by the way we all pay taxes so they will, they must have been asleep or smoked up in basic science class.

Lets see after everything we saw from the gulf oil rig disaster less oversight is ok.

Anyway, for what it was worth.

I remember a "gas leak" in downtown Pittsburgh a few years back. Evacuated the whole downtown 2 blocks either side of Grant street. Turned out a truck drove through with a broken container of Mercaptan in it. That's the stuff they add to natural gas to make it stink.

Perhaps something really nasty drove down Rt 6? Just a theory.

thought of that tom, but found out my neighbor down the road has been smelling something for 4-5 days now. not a gas smell..I worked on a few federal chemical sites over the years and I can definitely say it is a chemical like sulfuric acid or such. lot of locals complain when it rains and the tank trucks (frack) go by of smelling stuff..some think they are spreading it during rain storms.

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting it WAS mercaptan. Just relating it to my story. Regardless, if he's still smelling it 4-5 days later it probably wasn't something just passin' thru. I work in a lab and we get stuff that stinks for days if you don't get every little bit cleaned up. You'd be surprise how small and amount or even a small "stain" can reek.
