Spent some time in LA for work, and so of course the little 3wt came along for the ride. The guys at Orvis were kind enough to put me on a small local stream. I was the only guy fishing, although I saw plenty of hikers. Still, this was my first trip west, and I was more than a little thrilled to get into some native rainbows (albeit small rainbows).
They were all taken on dries. Almost like brookie fishing here.

Been out there several times. Hard to believe you can get wild trout in LA County, isn't it. I'll be out there for a week in March and two weeks in April. My stuff stays out there at a friends. Looking forward to some native bows in March and then wild browns in April.

Haven't fished in the LA area, but I have fished Northern CA, it's pretty good up there. I want to go back to CA and catch some Golden Trout.

Fun fishing and the OP got it right, they hit just like PA brookies! Smallish fish to be sure but damn pretty fish. You can get both native bows and wild browns within 90 minutes of LA. I'll send pictures and a post when I'm out there in mid March.
To give you an idea of where the browns are, I fished in the Santa Ana River in the San Bernadino Mountains. And to give you more detail, the fugitve cop Dorner was captured (well found dead) in a cabin right next to where I fished.

This was really tiny water not far from downtown LA (way less than 90 mins). Next time I'd like to get a little further off the beaten trail. I did wander up to a place called Frenchmen Flats campground where the fishing was supposed to be good, but I didn't see a thing.
One day I'd like to get into some goldens. There's just something about small, pretty fish. I'm trying to fish everywhere I need to travel for work this year. So to that end, anyone know a good trout stream in Amsterdam??
