We're visiting my wife's family for the weekend for Easter/my father in law's 60th birthday. Part of the festivities were a surprise party for him this afternoon. My task was to get him out of the house for several hours this morning so my wife and mother in law could get some party prep accomplished, guests could arrive, and then bring him back for the "surprise" promptly at 2:00. Seems to me like a little fishing was in order. My father in law doesn't do a ton of fishing, but is an outdoorsy guy in general, and gets around a stream just fine. We explored three new to me streams in an area I've been looking to check out for a while....a quick thanks to klingy and salmonoid for assisting in my stream research in this area.

We both caught fish, and long line released a few. Mostly little wild Brookies with a few Chubs, and one rogue stocker (I think) Brookie. I fished a small BH Bugger...saw a few rises over the course of the day, but the Bugger was working well enough that I didn't bother switching. My father in law was throwing Joe's Spinflies on an UL spinning outfit.

One thing worth mentioning...I doubt two of the three streams we fished see much pressure...but I did see the gutted head of what was probably a 9-10 inch Brookie on one of these little runs. Kind of a bummer, but it goes to show you these streams do get fished, especially this time of year.

Needless to say, knowing my fishing habits, my wife was very nervous about me not getting him back on time, but I did pretty well I think...we pulled back into the driveway at 2:03. Great day all around.

A few pics:
001 - Brookie of questionable origins
002 - Father in law with large male Chub in full spawning garb, complete with horns!
003 - Best wild Brookie of the day
