Anyone ever fish Nova Scotia?????

I'm taking a nine day trip on my motorcycle up to Nova Scotia the first week of August. I was toying with the idea of maybe getting some fishing time in. Just wondering, does anyone know of places to fish and I've been told that you might only be able to fish if you have hired a guide. Any info????

This is still up in the air. Like I said, this is a motorcycle ride.

Thanks

Are you going to NS from Maine or through New Brunswick?
If you go through NB the Mirimichi R. would be a good place to try. Upper Oxbow outfitters would be a good choice ,imo. Nice people, nice camp right on the Mirimachi R. and good guides. NS ,I'd check on water levels as on rain would stop fishing just as it does in Pa. GG

Found this wich may help:http://atlanticsalmonfederation.org/rivernotes/

I vacationed in nova scotia with the wife about 5 years ago. So, it certainly wasn't a fishing trip for sure.
But I did bring my gear with me, and took a shot at some atlantic salmon fishing in the margaree river - don't have to fish with a guide there
Didn't catch any - in fact I didn't even see a salmon. Found out later that the run was very poor that summer.
There were lots of small brookies in the river rising to BWO's though.
Getting tired of not catching anything, I switched to a smaller fly - and caught a few. Pretty strange playing brookies on a 10' 7 weight rod though

I fished the Margaree on Cape Breton Island quite a few years ago for Atlantics. The run was decent that year and I did catch one.

Skip the salmon, fish for brookies. Your guide will love you for not making him watch you catch nothing all day. It's not Labrador, but there are nice fish if you don't mind hiking.

The ferry ride to Lab is cool if you really want to get into brookies. It can be an overnighter.
