I fish spring creek a couple of times a year. I'd like to tie a caddis larva that matches the natural. Does anyone have a photo they could post of one of these bugs? What size too?
Thanks, -B

Thanks Sandfly. Does SC have both cased and uncased caddis, or is that the same bug out of its case?

Different insect. SC has several different caddis ie; net spinning, stone cased, stick cased, free roaming. and colors from cream, gray to all shades of olive. one reason I carry honey bugs in all colors, covers the basics. then I have more exact imitations too. this is a saddle case maker larva

The first pic Sandy posted (below) is a free living caddis larva which is as common as dirt in most streams in PA. As Sandy said, there are many caddis in all forms, colors and sizes inhabiting our streams. I suggest you do some rock turning on your favorite streams and take note as to what you find.

Caddis larve is a pattern I don't spend much time on. Get the (about) right sized hook, pretty close color dubbing, spin wrap, whip, next! ( but maybe that info goes in Fly tying)

I intended to turn some rocks the ast time I was there, but I eagerly started fishing upon arival, and before I knew it, it was too dark to see anything. As I was driving home, I realized I forgot to flip some rocks as I had planned.

I met a pa guide and professional fly tyer stream side on SC a long time ago. He have me a simple green caddis. Size 14, gold bead head, green dubbed body, fine gold rib. He told me that was his number one producer. I tied a bunch up and eventually tied them in tan also. On SC I have actually done better with a tan caddis than the green/olive that I started with. The pics above are very good, you will find both of those bugs living there.

Thanks George. Good info. I'm hoping to get back to Spring Creek next month, I'll be sure to take some of the caddis patterns you described.
