I think I've found a decent deal one of these, 5wt 8'6". I'm sure its better than what I am currently using, but is there anything I should know before I buy this?

I have the an 8'6" 5wt. Over all a decent rod to start on, but I found I prefer a rod that is a bit slower. Has a decent punch to it, good for getting some streamers where you want. How good of a deal are you getting if you don't mind me asking. I paid around $80 for mine.

80$, Damn. I need to shop where you do.
An outdoor store with a small fly section was closing up, half off everything. Saw the chance and took it. I don't think I'll ever pay full price for a rod again, considering some of the deals I have got in the past. Besides maybe a higher end Winston.
$100 for an Imperial is still a good deal in my opinion. For my past two set ups I have waited on getting a discount for clearance items turning $400+ rigs into ~$200 rigs, with good line to. You can get very good gear that is still supported by the manufacture on the cheap quite often, but especially in the fall.
And to the OP, try it with 6wt line to. That is what mine is set up with and it does well.

Ok so its not as good a deal as $80. But for $100 I'll still take it. The seller claims he only used it once or twice.
Phish_On, what kinda fish do you catch in the raging river where Rutherford drowned?
